To be eligible for appointment as an election worker, you must meet the following requirements:
As an election worker, you should be aware of FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes, which include Social Security and Medicare taxes.
2026 Tax Year: FICA taxes will be deducted from the first dollar earned after the exemption limit of $2,500. This means:

Your complete journey from invitation to payment. Follow these steps to successfully serve as an election worker.
Receive your official invitation to join as an election worker via email. Check your inbox for enrollment instructions, login credentials, and important details about your role. This invitation contains your unique access code to the HRIS Portal.
What to expect:
Complete your onboarding process including required forms (I-9 and W-4), training materials, direct deposit setup, and background verification. All forms can be completed online through the portal. This step must be completed before you can work.
Onboarding tasks:
⏱️ Estimated time: 45–60 minutes
Serve at your assigned polling location during the early voting period or on election day. Support voters, manage check-in procedures, assist with voting equipment, and ensure a smooth democratic process. Early voting poll workers are especially needed!
Your responsibilities:
Submit your hours worked through the HRIS Portal immediately after your shift. Ensure all time entries are accurate, including start time, end time, break periods, and location. Timely and accurate submission ensures prompt payment processing.
Timesheet guidelines:
⏱️ Deadline: Within 24 hours after shift completion
Your polling location supervisor or election administrator reviews and approves your submitted hours. You'll receive an email confirmation once your timesheet is approved and sent to payroll for processing. Check the portal for approval status updates.
After approval:
⏱️ Processing time: 1–3 business days
Receive your payment via direct deposit on the scheduled payroll date. Payment typically arrives 5–7 business days after timesheet approval. View your pay stubs, tax withholding information, and year-to-date earnings in the portal. FICA exemption applies to the first $2,500 earned in 2026.

Once you complete all 6 steps, you've successfully served as an election worker and will receive your compensation. Thank you for supporting democracy! You can apply again for future elections by checking the Election Calendar.
Onboarding must be completed at least 14 days before the election date to ensure you can work. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing after submission.
Training must be scheduled and completed before your assigned election day. Late arrivals (more than 10 minutes) to training will need to reschedule.
